GSQ Blog Posted on January 29, 2018 by Janice CooperNovember 8, 2024

Guest Blogger, Janice Cooper relates her experience of an online tree Recently, I was curious to discover an online family tree which included Alma Readford as the daughter of Henry Readford and Elizabeth Jane Skuthorpe, a couple from New South Wales. The family tree indicated that she had died in 1940 and it seems possible that the brief information included there came from the death entry on the online index of the New South Wales Registry of Births, Deaths and … Continue reading

Remember to Accentuate the Positive Geneameme 2017

GSQ Blog Posted on January 22, 2018 by Bobbie EdesNovember 8, 2024

2018 is the 6th consecutive year that Jill Ball has set a challenge on GeniAus. After reading on Facebook two great blogs by Pauleen Cass and Shauna Hicks I decided to take up this challenge myself. 1. An elusive ancestor I found was: No new direct ancestors unfortunately, but I did find another sister to my maternal great-grandmother. As she married prior to the majority of the family emigrating, I had missed her. On checking her and her little family … Continue reading

Having to go to Toowomba I decided to call in to find the place. Only when I got there, I realized I didn’t have my … Continue reading

GSQ Blog Posted on January 8, 2018 by Pauline WilliamsNovember 8, 2024

My main activity over the past few weeks, however, has been to write up a family history for my dad’s ancestry, which has been somewhat on the backburner for several years. I wanted to … Continue reading

The Porter family in Toowoomba: A short interlude: Charles Edward Porter (1885-1962), Flora Mabel Trott (1885-1956) and Edward Porter (1916-1916)

GSQ Blog Posted on January 1, 2018 by Marg DohertyNovember 8, 2024

I am the guest blogger this week at GSQ giving the other bloggers a rest over the holiday.  I have been doing family history for about forty years and I thought I start to write some stories about my research.  My topic for the blog is my father’s aunt, uncle and cousin who lived for a couple of generations in nearby Toowoomba. Charles and Flora Porter were children of Darling Downs pioneers. Charles was the youngest son of James Porter … Continue reading
