Treasures in the Trove – December 2015

GSQ Blog Posted on December 28, 2015 by GSQ AdminDecember 28, 2015

It was my first visit to GSQ’s new premises in the Brisbane suburb of Wishart and I wondered what I would find.  Would I find the resources I needed to progress my own research or the family tree charts that have been the basis for my monthly posts for the last 18 months?  Would the charts have made the transition from the old to the new home in one piece?  Would the larger scrolls in the repository some of us … Continue reading

’tis the season for…

GSQ Blog Posted on December 21, 2015 by GSQ AdminDecember 21, 2015

It’s that time of year again and many of us are celebrating or getting ready to celebrate (or just looking forward to some quiet time to get stuck into research!). While it’s generally accepted that people celebrate this holiday season in different ways, there are different reasons for celebration. For some, anyway. For example, most of us know someone whose birthday is upon us, someone who probably misses out on proper celebrations most years because everyone’s too busy with their … Continue reading

Lifelong learning

GSQ Blog Posted on December 14, 2015 by GSQ AdminDecember 14, 2015

GSQ opens the doors at its new home

GSQ Blog Posted on December 7, 2015 by GSQ AdminDecember 7, 2015

GSQ opened its new home at 25 Stackpole Street, Wishart on 1 December 2015. Numerous members and volunteers have done a fantastic job in getting the premises ready.  GSQs location is on the corner of Stackpole Street and Mt Gravatt-Capalaba Road; there is easy access from the Gateway Motorway as well as from Mt Gravatt-Capalaba Road, a main arterial leading from Garden City Shopping Centre at Mt Gravatt. There are a number of public transport options, with the Express bus … Continue reading

Why would you look at YouTube for Family History?

GSQ Blog Posted on December 1, 2015 by GSQ AdminDecember 1, 2015

When I was asked to prepare a presentation for the “It Doesn’t Rain in the Cloud” seminar held recently I wondered  what I would find to enlighten and entertain an audience of family historians. It soon became apparent that other than the videos of musicians, comedians, how to do anything there was also how to do genealogy. If I was beginning family history research I would be bamboozled by the variety and number of videos. The big genealogical databases , … Continue reading
