Remembering to Accentuate the Positive 2022 challenge.

GSQ Blog Posted on January 23, 2023 by Bobbie EdesJanuary 4, 2023

This is the fourth time I have participated in Jill Ball’s (aka GeniAus) challenge.  As part of the challenge Jill sets out a number of sentence beginnings which bloggers need to elaborate on. It’s a rewarding experience and helps me to realise the many positive steps undertaken during the past year. I was happy to go back to travelling and catching up with a very old relative after a Covid enforced absence in interstate travels. Prior to my arrival in … Continue reading

Accentuate the Positive – 2021 (in Jan 2022).

GSQ Blog Posted on January 17, 2022 by Bobbie EdesJanuary 17, 2022

Many years ago Jill Ball set a January challenge on GeniAus for a yearly blog to Accentuate the Positive – 2021 and this one in January 2022 is my 4th yearly effort.  The challenge has 20 set points to cover, however I have used a few challenge points from past years to replace those that haven’t fitted my year. However, I … Continue reading

THE THINGS YOU LEARN AT G.S.Q.

GSQ Blog Posted on November 4, 2019 by Lorraine DigneyNovember 4, 2019

LOOKING FOR THE “J” IN JAMES J. PICKUP? My research into the birth of James led me to the New South Wales Births Deaths and Marriages Family History Research page i.e. https://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/Pages/family-history-research/family-history-search.aspx Just hit the “start searching” button. Select what your looking for a birth, a death or a marriage. In this instance a “birth”. Type in what you do know and a ballpark date. I searched for : Name Fields>>James J. Pickup :  Father>> John :    Mother>> Mary :   Date … Continue reading

Getting your writing ready for publication

GSQ Blog Posted on July 9, 2018 by Pauline WilliamsJuly 13, 2018

GSQ’s Writing Group has recently been discussing the basics of compiling a printed publication. Depending on the nature of the publication, apart from the main body of the text other components may include a foreword, contents list or table, a preface, appendixes, frequently used abbreviations and maybe a glossary of terms, endnotes. Two essential elements are a list of references or bibliography and an index. Referencing or citation is something we often wish we had done when we were undertaking … Continue reading
