Accentuate the Positive 2024 by Bobbie Edes

GSQ Blog Posted on January 27, 2025 by Bobbie EdesJanuary 27, 2025

Remember to Accentuate the Positive is GeniAus’ challenge for each January, this is my 6th year in a row tackling this challenge where authors need to look back on their previous year and appreciate the positive actions that have taken place in their life. As suggested I have not responded to some points which didn’t apply to my year.  Google provided an answer to many questions I asked of it through the course of my year. It is a ‘Go … Continue reading

An ABC Journey through books.

GSQ Blog Posted on February 19, 2024 by Jill BallNovember 2, 2024

By Jill Ball. After reading Shauna’s recent post I decided to write another genealogy ABC, focusing on books. Throughout my genealogy journey hundreds of books have supported me, many are listed on my Librarything and/or Goodreads pages. Please join me as I remember some. A is for …(Road) Atlases When we hit the research road, we follow a paper map in addition to GPS devices. Road Atlases are easier to handle than a large map and provide a lot of detail. We … Continue reading

Accentuate the positive 2022 – Jill Ball’s yearly challenge

GSQ Blog Posted on January 30, 2023 by Pauline WilliamsNovember 3, 2024

Jill Ball has set a challenge for several years on GeniAus for a yearly blog to Accentuate the Positive. I first completed this as a year in review for 2021, so this post now looks back on 2022. I commented at the beginning of last year’s post that 2021 had presented many challenges; I therefore looked forward to 2022. Sadly challenges remained, not only in local, national and global events but especially on a personal level. It is probably even … Continue reading

Remembering to Accentuate the Positive 2022 challenge.

GSQ Blog Posted on January 23, 2023 by Bobbie EdesNovember 3, 2024

This is the fourth time I have participated in Jill Ball’s (aka GeniAus) challenge.  As part of the challenge Jill sets out a number of sentence beginnings which bloggers need to elaborate on. It’s a rewarding experience and helps me to realise the many positive steps undertaken during the past year. I was happy to go back to travelling and catching up with a very old relative after a Covid enforced absence in interstate travels. Prior to my arrival in … Continue reading

Genealogy for all.

GSQ Blog Posted on April 4, 2022 by Jill BallNovember 3, 2024

Recently at Rootstech I co-hosted a panel discussing ethics and genealogy. My purpose was to raise awareness and encourage community members to think about their actions when dealing with people, places, information and things in the genealogy world. During the session and after in many comments on Twitter, genies described times where they felt marginalised, ignored or hurt. These personal issues included ageism, acceptance, sexism, racism, dismissiveness, put-downs, bullying, elitism and more. Issues of sharing sensitive information, DNA use, copyright … Continue reading
