‘A Ship of Contentment and Cheerfulness’: Further Researching on Nineteenth Century Queensland Immigrant Vessels — 2 Comments

  1. What an interesting piece. Diaries of shipboard experiences are fascinating. I found Anne Bourke’s diary (Governor Bourke’s daughter) in the Mitchell Library which she wrote during her family’s voyage to NSW in 1832. She wrote so descriptively about all the strange sea life they saw.

  2. Hello Sue:
How lovely to make contact again. And what a wonderful find – Anne Bourke’s shipboard diary written on the Margaret in 1831. Also what a wonderful time period for the Bourke’s to come to NSW and make such significant contributions both the governor and his son in law Deas Thomson over so many years. I am glad you gained so much information from this source and I am hoping others will have similar windfalls from other diaries – most really are wonderful. Hope your research is progressing well. With gratitude, Jennifer H.
