  1. As a Smith and one with 13 lines of Smith (still don't see why Kezia Smith had to marry George Smith! out of everyone else in the village) I totally agree. It is slightly harder and you do have to be very organised and document every bit of research but it is possible! The thrill you get when you find them is fantastic.

  2. Thanks Helen. I enjoyed writing this post and seeing how much information GSQ has to help people research the more common and obscure aspects of our trees. Two things I took away from this post 1. Never fail to pursue a line of enquiry, you never know where it will lead 2. Never give up, never give up, never, never, never give up!

  3. Thomas Smith is my 5th great-grandfather, so this is great info to have. Out of curiosity, what is an "M.L.C."? And do you have these charts or the family trees accessible online anywhere? Thanks!

  4. SFSusan, Thank you so much for your comment. I'm so delighted to know you have connections to these Smiths and this blog has been a method to connect you to your ancestors. Given the context of the information on Family Tree Chart #13, it would seem MLC stands for Member of Legislative Council (Assembly). Should be some very interesting information on this on-line and using Victorian sources. The family tree charts (approx. 120 or so of them) themselves are not on-line but the indexes are available to GSQ members under MyGSQ. It is on my list of things to do to put a case forward to GSQ's Management Committee to suggest these charts are placed on MyGSQ. Stay tuned and thanks again for your comment. Lyndall M
