The Value of a Photo

Last week I found a photo of my grandfather taken when he was 25 years old. I came upon him suddenly after an afternoon of searching. I felt a shock of instant connection as I saw family resemblances and recognised my uncles and my mother in his features. Immigrant ship names: Laurie Schell, Laura Schell, Lalashelley, La Rochelle

Laurie Schell, Laura Schell, Lalashelley, La Rochelle – How many different ships were there with these similar names? These were the names for one and the same ship as handed down through families and recorded in bibles, obituaries and other newspaper and magazine articles. The ship was named the La Rochelle, commemorating a seaport in western France.
