The places where we live usually impact on our lives

GSQ Blog Posted on November 12, 2017 by Pauline WilliamsNovember 8, 2024

Over the years, I have been gathering photos of places where I have lived as a means of documenting significant periods in my life. I can record changes in my life experiences as I’ve moved from my parents’ home to student accommodation to the rental market to private home ownership. I have also adopted this strategy in relation to as many of my ancestors as possible. Since the majority of these lived in England, I have relied greatly on online … Continue reading

Victorian curiosities emerge in data clean-up

GSQ Blog Posted on October 9, 2017 by Pauline WilliamsNovember 8, 2024

I have recently purchased the upgrade of Legacy from v8 to v9, but haven’t yet installed it, pending a clean-up of the data in Legacy 8. His death in 1987 was what prompted me to start researching my family history. I became aware at his funeral that all the relatives I remembered from my childhood had passed away. Who were they? I started to research the … Continue reading

All the fun of the Fair

GSQ Blog Posted on August 14, 2017 by Pauline WilliamsNovember 8, 2024

GSQs Family History Fair to be precise. August is Family History Month and GSQ decided to hold a Family History Fair. Saturday 5 August was the chosen day for the Fair. August in Brisbane is renowned for cold weather and westerly winds. The Exhibition, or Ekka, is held in August and is regarded as an incredible breeding ground for germs imparting colds and flu. Our previous Fair in February 2016, shortly after our move to Stackpole Street, Wishart, had been on a cold, … Continue reading

Changes at GSQ Blog

GSQ Blog Posted on August 12, 2017 by Pauline WilliamsNovember 8, 2024

Dear Readers There will be some changes at GSQs blog for the next few months. Two of our regular bloggers, Helen Smith and Geraldine Lee, have stepped aside from blogging for GSQ for different reasons. Until two new bloggers are appointed, several members of GSQ have volunteered to do guest posts. Look out for these guest bloggers whose posts will start to appear at the end of this month. Joan Reik and I will continue on our usual Mondays. We … Continue reading
