GSQ Blog Posted on September 27, 2021 by Peter CassNovember 5, 2024

The continuing COVID-19 pandemic has certainly had a huge impact on Australia, with nearly 72,000 cases and over 1,000 deaths, nearly all in New South Wales and Victoria, and huge social and economic disruption. It seems to me that the State and Territory governments and health services have, by and large, sought to work with each other in combatting the virus, while still prioritising their own residents/citizens. (Although, to be honest, “Yes, there’ll be deaths but at least you’ll … Continue reading

Remember to Accentuate the Positive – 2020.

GSQ Blog Posted on January 11, 2021 by Bobbie EdesNovember 3, 2024

Jill Ball has set a January challenge on GeniAus for a yearly blog to Accentuate the Positive. This is my 2021 effort reflecting on my 2020 year.  The challenge has 20 set points to cover. Remember to Accentuate the Positive An elusive ancestor I found was – Someone I had been searching many years for, an adopted baby. I finally cracked the mystery and managed to track who she had married, when she died and what children she had. A great … Continue reading

Remember to Accentuate the Positive Geneameme 2017

GSQ Blog Posted on January 22, 2018 by Bobbie EdesNovember 8, 2024

2018 is the 6th consecutive year that Jill Ball has set a challenge on GeniAus. After reading on Facebook two great blogs by Pauleen Cass and Shauna Hicks I decided to take up this challenge myself. 1. An elusive ancestor I found was: No new direct ancestors unfortunately, but I did find another sister to my maternal great-grandmother. As she married prior to the majority of the family emigrating, I had missed her. On checking her and her little family … Continue reading

Congress 2015

GSQ Blog Posted on March 16, 2015 by Guest BloggerNovember 8, 2024

By Tiggy Johnson. I can hardly believe it’s less than 2 weeks before I’ll be heading off to Canberra for Congress 2015. It seems like just yesterday I booked an early-bird ticket and assured myself I’d be a very good organised person and would prepare adequately well in advance. Which seems a little funny now. In a scary kind of way. Now, the Oh my goodness, it’s less than two weeks before Congress has a different tone to it than … Continue reading

Greetings from South of the Border…

GSQ Blog Posted on December 29, 2014 by Jill BallNovember 4, 2024

…down Sydney way. You may ask “Who is this strange woman writing on our blog today?” My name is Jill Ball and, like many of your members, I am an amateur genealogist who has a bad dose of the genealogy bug. You can find out a little about me from this recent interview. I was delighted when your President, whom I have met at conferences and on geneacruises, emailed asking me to write a guest post for your fifth Monday … Continue reading
